Mesne Profits: Springfield man was busted for using cryptocurrencies 2024

A Springfield man was busted for using cryptocurrencies to laundere marijuana profits. An illicit drug trafficking scheme was discovered by RCMP investigators, leading to the prosecution of a 39-year-old man from the RM of Springfield on multiple charges. Additionally, as a result of the investigation, drugs, equipment, and criminal proceeds valued at over $6 million were seized. RCMP Intelligence Officer Insp. Joe Telus stated at a press conference at RCMP headquarters on Tuesday that “the suspect in this investigation was obtaining Health Canada medical cannabis grow licences through fraudulent means and growing vast amounts of illicit cannabis to sell through a criminal network, and he was converting that ill-gotten cash into cryptocurrency to fund his lavish lifestyle and other criminal enterprise.” “Project Divergent and Project Decrypt demonstrate how these networks are interconnected and feed off of one another.
