Police in Eau Claire have received reports of cryptocurrency scams.
WEAU (EAU CLAIRE, WI) – Eau Claire police report that they have received reports of scammers targeting individuals and businesses in a Facebook post.
The Eau Claire police advise readers to exercise caution when dealing with individuals who request payments through cryptocurrency.
“ECPD has recently taken several cases in which individuals and businesses have been targeted by scammers,” reads the Facebook post.
Scammers get in touch with employees of companies and give them instructions to take money out of business accounts and exchange it for cryptocurrency so they can use it to cover up imaginary business expenses.
People have been informed that their computer has a security breach and that they must pay to fix it in order to prevent more losses.
